The Arts Commission Welcomes Three New Additions to the County Collection

On January 4, 2019 the Sheila Kuehl Family Wellness Center opened to public. This new facility provides an array of outpatient mental health services for children and their families. It also houses mental health programs that serve the community, including the Child Navigation Team, Psychiatric Mobile Response Teams, and LA Enforcement Teams.

The lobby of this new Wellness Center features three brand-new additions to the County Collection by artist Christine Nguyen. The artworks, Mystical Forest—a 16' tall photo-based mural, Magical Deer—a mural that also functions as a dividing wall between the children's waiting area and the adult's, and Portal's Eye—a hanging acrylic chandelier—are inspired by the flora and fauna of the surrounding San Fernando area. They are designed to cultivate a playful and imaginative atmosphere that the artist hopes will create a sense of wonder for clients, visitors, and staff alike.

The Lobby also features a revolving display inviting community members to create votive weave decorations known as Ojo de Dios ("Eye of God") as well as a coloring book (also designed by Ngyuen) to occupy children while they wait.
